The Adventures of Grandad Wheels
What did we do

Artwork formatting and print

About the Project

The Adventures of Grandad Wheels are stories about a Grandad who uses a wheelchair and his grandson Charlie. These stories show the close relationship between Grandad and Charlie. They end up getting into a little mischief on the way! Each book gives an insight into what it is like to use a wheelchair.

Currently, there are two stories available in which both Print Bureau have formatted the artwork and printed. The first, 'Charlie's Big Idea' and the second, 'Chaos at Cheapfoods!'. We worked with the author Brian to create the book in which the typography would reflect the fun of the story. This works well with the brightly coloured illustrations created by Lynne Hickin.

Brian, the author, is local and lives in Halifax. Brian was involved in a serious cycling accident in 2013, which left him paraplegic, and he now uses a wheelchair. He started to write stories to amuse his grandson Charles. After sharing his stories with friends and other wheelchair users, this encouraged Brian to create The Adventures of Grandad Wheels storybooks. He is determined not to let his disability stop him from having adventures with Charles.

The two stories are perfect for children, especially Primary School ages. These are available to buy at www.grandadwheels.com.

All proceeds from sales of 'The Adventures of Grandad Wheels' are donated to help those with Spinal Injuries - the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and Back Up

The Print

The books are Perfect bound with silk pages and a matt laminated cover. To create an extra special finish for an extra special storybook, the logo and front cover text has been finished with gold foiling.
